We sent Cort to a week long art camp this summer at this really cool place near our house called The CAT studio. CAT stands for creating artist for tomorrow. They do such a great job with kids of all ages, really teaching them about art in all sort of mediums and really allowing the child to do the art themselves. I was a little nervous about sending Cort, as we is the youngest age they accept and he had to go during his rest time but here's a picture of him after the first day....
"Cort, how did you like art camp?"

His answer......

I'd say it was a success. Even asked to do more art as soon as we walked in the door at home!!
He wore those same clothes each day, I should have taken a picture at the end of the week to show how covered his shirt was by then!!
They did several different art projects all week long and then on the last day had an art show for all the parents. They served snacks and shirly temples and had the student's art so nicely displayed. Cort had so much fun taking us around and showing us all of his work. He enjoyed it all so much and I really was impressed with how well he actually used the concepts they were teaching him.
ceramic coasters inspired by petroglyphs of Hawaii...the carvings are suppose to tell stories from his life...his are "our house and a swing hanging from a tree."
Glass tile Mosaic inspired by middle East Design - the kids did all of it including the grout and making the frame( Cort was really excited about the nail gun!!)
Photographic Mono-type - they got to go in the dark room( aka the dark tunnel according to Cort)
Watercolor painting( inspired by J.M.W. Turner - Watercolor landscapes - Cort chose to paint a jungle.
The screen print on paper
Screen print tshirt inspired by Henri Matisse( paper cut out masterpieces)
Abstract Acrylic Painting on Canvas - this was suppose to be inspired by paintings by Erik Benjamin - known for abstract landscapes painted in layers. Cort said he painted a farm and that the green sky is because a storm is blowing in to cover the sun, and that there is also a pond on the farm. I love this one.
