15 Days

Hey Folks,
Just wanted to give a quick update. Yes, Cohen was 2 weeks old yesterday and we took some good pictures, but the best intentions sometimes fail, so we didn't get them on the computer to upload yet. Cohen is still doing well. He has gained weight another day (now 5lb 12oz) and still off oxygen and air supply! We had a lot of discussions today with doctors, nurses, therapists, and the NICU social worker...plus a 3.5 hour CPR class. It's been a long day. It looks like we are headed for a possible discharge date for Monday, but it could change a little bit. They are currently recording his oxygen levels continuously as opposed to spot checks and are going to review the data to see if he needs to go home with some oxygen for special situations, like riding in the car seat, physical therapy, etc. We are really excited about the progressions, and also a little nervous about being his parents, doctor, and nurse while at home with him. Tomorrow was to be the day he was born, and we are very proud and grateful to be where we are now compared to where we could have been. Passion week and the celebration of Jesus and his life, death, and accomplishments therein are very neat to view from our vantage point. So much of the studies we have been doing at Grace have been centered around the ministry of Jesus, and His miraculous power. We often wondered what it would look like to see God work in such tangible ways in the here and now. Now we know, and we are so thankful and undeserving. When asked for signs of his authority and power, Jesus said none will be given because even if they were, we would not believe. It's easy to downplay God's miraculous provision in a medical issue like Cohen's where new diagnoses are always handy. I'm not discrediting a genetic diagnosis at all...God is the God of genetics too. A name like Odontochondrodysplasia or Thanatophoric Dysplasia is not news to Him. But genes aside, we asked God to let us hold Cohen and he did; we asked God to protect his head from expected abnormalities and he did; we asked God to allow him to live and He did; we ask God to carry us and He did. We don't know why He has been so good to us in the exact way we asked...but we'll never forget that He did...and if you ever think we have, please slap us. -Chris, Emily, Cort & Cohen

God is so amazing! We are praying that you will be able to take your family home soon and that you will feel prepared and empowered to do so and care for Cohen. God has given you such strength these past weeks, I know you will carry that same strength home with you!

What a wonderful testimony to hear on this Blessed GOOD FRIDAY morning. It's interesting that you mention our undeserving, because I was just wrestling with that concept in my own mind just this morning. What do you say to Jesus on the day he suffered so much for us? I can't figure it out either, but I guess all we can do is praise Him and live for Him and if he chooses to bless us...accept his gift humbly. Cohen is your gift, and to witness your story is all of ours. We all Thank you for that.

You have the Great Physician within you, so don't worry too much about that part, Mamas are good at nursing, and you have proof with Cort that God has used you already to be great parents! So, take a deep breath and you will do just fine, when in dobt you'll do like the rest of us, ask other parents for advice, opinions and prayers as well as keep the ask a nurse or doc on speed dial. We believe in you and so does God---we look forward to the post that says..."We're Home!!!"
Love and blessings over you.

Slap you? Well, maybe a gentle reminder, but I seriously doubt you will forget how gracious God has been. We are so proud of you and especially proud of little Cohen. Can't wait until you are all home!

Even though I don't personally know you guys, it's been a tremendous blessing to me to read your daily updates. Hearing about and seeing God's miracle is so encouraging and is an incredible reminder of the Awesome God we serve and his ability to conquer even death. Thank you for sharing with the world this journey your family is on and allowing us to pray with you and praise God for his blessings and miracles. Happy Easter Baby Cohen-we are so happy you are here!

Also undeserving and daily leaning on His mercy and grace,

The only form of slap coming from here is applause for Gods work in your beautiful family. On this "Good Friday" I am so thankful for Cohen and the blessings he is bringing to you through his Creator. So much to be thankful for, and you are. So much love to be experiencing, and you are.
So much to never forget, and you won't. God is bigger than the things going on in Cohens life, and he has His eyes on him constantly. God loves you all so much. Have a most blessed Easter with your little miracle. This is the weekend
of miracles, Jesus lives and so does Cohen.

Love you, Laurie in Ca.
