Cohen has had a really good day. He came off of his room air today and has done well with that. He has had a good day with bottles as well. He is a little off schedule and seems to be becoming a bit of a snacker late afternoon but he is handling his feeds so that's good. He does still seem to drop a little in his oxygen saturations when he is eating but was much better about that today then yesterday. He has a bit of a temper - he got really angry when the nurse took the tape off of his face from the tubes. It apparently did not feel good and he took quite a while to recover. His lungs may be small but he sure knows hot to use them when he needs to.
The geneticist came by to see us today. He and the folks in Germany have an idea of what they think Cohen may have, but we are still waiting for the Thanatophoric Dysplasia tests as well. There are no tests to confirm what they are thinking so it's sort of an observation diagnosis and a wait and see as he develops. They think he may have something called Odontochondrodysplasia. It is a short limbed skeletal dysplasia that also involves a narrow chest like Cohen has. The two main things that are tipping them off to this is the lack of facial abnormality that most skeletal dysplasias have and the x-rays of his spine. His spine bones are very flat and they are not very dense. It is extremely rare. It seems that as long as the children don't run into respiratory distress due to illness and if their chest grows well enough for their lungs to support their growing bodies that they are able to live a long time. Because it is so rare, there is not a lot of conclusive info about life expectancy. The disorder does not seem to have any mental disability connected with it. It seems that most of the kids are able to walk eventually. The "odonto" part is due to problems that the children have with their teeth.
We just got all of this info this morning and haven't completely had time to process it all. What we do know is that God has given us Cohen for 13 days so far in spite of his tiny little chest and lungs and for that we are beyond thankful. We continue to praise God for what He has done.

I'm praising Him with ya! Thanks for the continued updates and pictures!!! I can't wait to see him walk!!! Still praying hard!
We continue to pray and praise God for the miracle of Cohen! So glad he had such a good day today. That's wonderful that the doctors are figuring out a diagnosis...I pray that they are able to get the test results back and you'll get a more conclusive answer. I'm so excited that you may have both your boys home for Easter...what an awesome blessing! Love you all!
The Alfords are still here and praying and praising as well with ya!
Thanks for the updates, what an encouragement! I love to have good days to hold on to! Glad you are having more good days than not so good days! I'm learning even in the difficult times there is a parallel and/or woven stream of great things going on as well. Seems to help in getting through...Cohen is a precious reminder He(our Dad in Heaven) is with us through it all.

We continue to rejoice with you and pray for you all for what God has and is doing. May His peace and joy continue to fill your souls.
You are so faithful in updating the blog so often! Thank you! I can't believe that you can find the time with seeing Cohen, getting home, recovering from the C-section, and trying to sleep once in a while. I will say that I refresh your blog about 5 times a day though!
Cohen is just beautiful!!! We can't wait to meet him!

Guys,
Thank you so much for being faithful in updating this blog. I imagine that if you went a spell without an update that you'd need more cell phone minutes on your plan ;-) Our God is great and we are witnessing a miracle. I'm amazed that it's been 13 days already, we'll look back and think, "He turned 6 months old in a week. Where did the time go?"
Our family continues to pray with yours!

Those are words that I will never remember, but I am thankful that the doctors are working so hard to figure as much as they can out. Although I am so grateful you seem to have such intelligent, caring doctors, we are still trusting in the Great Physician to keep Cohen healthy! Praise Him for Cohen! We love you guys,
Matt, Ashley, and Maggie
Thank you God for all the improvements Cohen continues to experience and we pray that you guide these fine physicians in their quest for understanding. But with that said we all know that you will always remain in control so please give Chris, Emily and all of us the strength and wisdom to take one day at a time and use each blessed one we share with the McGowan family to bring glory and honor to your name. For it is in Jesus' glorious name we pray and praise you. Amen
The Jarvis family remains with you!
Yay for Cohen!
So happy to hear that he continues to improve!
Praising God for another miracle in little Cohen's life. While the doctors struggle to find a name for Cohen's diagnosis we know that the Lord has created him perfectly in His own image and that He has numbered Cohen's days. We pray that God continues to bless Cohen with a long happy life. May the miracle of his life continue to lead others to the throne of Grace and Mercy every day!
