So you think you were sleeping?

In late January, Cohen had his yearly sleep study. It was suppose to just be for precautionary reasons. Last years came back clean and this ws just to make sure nothing changed. The appointment to go over the results kept getting postponed - some on our part for illnesses and some bc of doctor schedules so we didn't end up getting the results until the very end of February.

They were not as we expected.

His obstructive sleep apnea had jumped into the moderate range along with some very mild central sleep apnea. Cohen was waking out of REM sleep all through out the night...approximately 13- 20 times an hour. Great, right? We knew that he seemed to be sleeping "more lightly" but were not expecting that.

Cohen's tonsils are tiny so they weren't the culprit and our sleep specialists really felt that it was probably a combination of things causing it so we went home from that "harmless" appointment armed with a CPAP machine.

Our little man actually LOVES wearing hats, sunglasses, masks, etc., so it did not take us by surprised that he happily wore his "elephant" mask. ( he also happens to LOVE elephants...another little blessing!)

Elephant kisses....

What does an elephant say?

He wore the mask over the course of a week, building up tolerance and during bed time routine.

We got to the point of trying to put him down with it pretty fast since he was agreeable to being an "elephant" and imagine our excitment when on the third night we took this picture over the monitor..... 1.5 hours asleep with it on!!!
He did great the 1st few weeks, and then we hit a pretty big snag. He started really fighting it and we even had to try some calming meds, which didn't work and i wasn't a fan of so we took him off. We're continuing to work on it and praying it gets better!!
