That's right. Cort is paci free. Now before you all decide that we are absolutely insane to have taken the paci right when we brought home a new baby let me explain.
At dinner last week I mentioned to Chris that Cort's overbite was really getting bad and that we needed to take the paci soon( meaning this summer some time). Chris sort of playfully asked Cort if he wanted to throw away his paci's. Cort promptly said no and then asked to get them back out of the trashcan ( i guess thinking Chris was saying that we had thrown them away ) We told him that Mommy and Daddy wouldn't throw away his paci's but he could when he was ready. He then pitched a fit to throw them away. So we gave him two of his paci's - he then went to every trashcan in the house until he finally decided to throw them away in Cohen's trashcan( is it wierd that I love that Cohen has a trashcan in our house? ;)). I think he chose it because all of the other one's were getting pretty full and Cohen's was empty. He went to bed that night with no problem!!! He has asked about them occasionally but then says that he threw them away in Cohen's trashcan and that he's a big boy just like daddy. ( he's very into that - being "just like Daddy")
He has had some trouble unwinding for bed but he doesn't cry and he doesn't ask for his paci and it's getting better. We are so proud of him. He doesn't even mind that Cohen has the same paci.
We had one little mishap on Monday when he found a paci that we hadn't recovered. He brought it to me - very excited saying "green Paci, Cort's green paci." I thought it was going to be all over. He then ran and put it in his crib. I told him that that was where we use to put them and asked him if he remembered where he put the other ones and he said in the trashcan. So I took the paci out of his crib and he started to cry. I didn't want to be the one taking his paci - I loved that it was a decision that he made and that he had gotten rid of them himself. So I handed him the paci and asked him what he thought he should do with it. He looked at the paci for a good 30 seconds or so and I held my breath. He then ran out of his room and into Cohen's room and threw it in the trashcan!!!!!! So proud.
I can't believe how easy it was.

Wow!! That's great how easy that was. Way to go Cort!
Augh--I'm so jealous! I really think Jackson's going to end up going to college with his paci! :)
So glad things are going well at the McGowan household!
Nancy
Yay! That's awesome. Congratulations!
Wow! Can't say that Cort's experience was at all similar to Abby's this past January! We're glad the pacis have been gone for 3 months now though! And I am super excited that Cohen has a trashcan of his very own!
Way to go BIG BOY Cort!!! You are getting to be Soooo Big that I guess you need to start sending out your resume and get a job just like Daddy! Thanks for sharing even the little moments in your family's life, I honestly think I have become addicted to checking the "McGowan Blog"!..... Hello...my name is Chad and I'm a cOrt-N-cOhEnoholic....

I hope you are writing all this down:) Love hearing what is going on with BOTH your boys:) Thankfully the boys quit taking thier paci on their own at 6 months...Parker is our thumb sucker and I see visions of him sucking his thumb at the alter on his wedding day:) Hope Cohen's reflux and discomfort is getting better. We had Miss Priss at the Dr. today for the same thing:( We too are now on Zantac. Like Cohen, she does not seem as bad as the boys were...she is already a chunker:) I was so hoping we were going to avoid the reflux this time around. Oh well...I tried to convince myself for almost 6 weeks now that it wasn't that...she was just too fussy and was not wanting to nurse:( Her range on her "spit up" was pretty impressive so I gave in. I guess the two of us must just grow them this way:) Not that it is our fault but I sure wish there was on "off" switch:) So glad to hear Cohen is gaining weight! You're doing a great job:) m
yeah for the paci - free kiddo! Big boy!
We tried every paci known to man, but Mary Addison wouldn't take any of them. Now I'm glad. She does however suck on blankets, lovies, etc. She couldn't stand a paci, but she loves cloth...go figure!
I started to get nervous when i read taht he put the green paci in his crib!
That was really easy!
YEAH!! I can not believe it was that easy for Cort- what a BIG BOY!!!! That is too cute that he chose Cohen's trashcan! LOVE IT!
Yeah for filling up Cohen's trash can. Funny to think that we are praising God for a trash can, but then again why shouldn't we. congrats to your big boy Cort - what a big accomplishment.
Yea! We just got rid of a paci in our house too and it was also very easy. Ben did it on his own. Congratulatons Cort!
Praying for you in PA!
Kristy
wow!
awesome!
That is so awesome!! Eli (2 1/2) is into being 'like big guys' too, so i think that type of reasoning will work with him too. (No paci, but the thumb at bedtime.)
