We had Cohen's OT evaluation today. It went fine, though he slept through all of it - I guess you can't expect much different out of a 4 week old( yep, he'll be 4 weeks old tomorrow!!!). She gave us a few exercises to do to strengthen his suck and said she thought that he was doing really well. We are trying to get some in home therapies set up so that I won't have to take him there while he is so young. There are a lot of children there and we just have to be really careful about his health right now - no respiratory illnesses for Cohen!! I haven't heard back yet from the PT but should soon. I just keep thinking how thankful I am for my background. I certainly wasn't a therapist but at my school that was a lot of what I did - worked with my kids on OT, PT, and speech as prescribed by their therapist. I have a decent understanding of things and terms and about what is available to Cohen. Even though the scheduling of it all seems a little overwhelming at times - at least none of it is a shock to me. I was wondering about these therapies for him before anyone brought them up. I think Cort was thrilled to have a play date today with one of his friends while we were at OT. Thanks Taryn!!
Today was my first day home by myself. The OT visit took up the better part of the morning and the rest of the day went really well. I am so pleased with how well Cort has adjusted to having Cohen around. He also seems to have adjusted just fine to the grandparents being gone. The only things we are really having to work on are just teaching new rules ( ie. not allowed to bounce the bouncy seat) and to be calm around Cohen ( not jumping on Mommy while she's holding Cohen). Cort is full of energy so being calm is not exactly his strong point! :) He loves to help. This favorite thing to do is to take the bottles to the sink when we are done with them. The only problem is getting him to wait until we are really done with them!!! I still haven't figured out a good feeding/pumping/nursing schedule but we will get there I am sure.
Cohen hasn't eaten quite as well as he did last week. The weekend was pretty rough with him fussing and screaming during feeds but today was a good bit better. I hope it starts a trend and isn't just a random good day!!! Now if I could just figure out how to get him to fall asleep without being held....... :)
Gotta say - I love having these little baby dilemmas.

I'm so excited to hear all of the good news! Sounds like Cort and Cohen are both doing great! Miss you!!!
So I walked past your house today and saw the double stroller in your driveway. Made me smile. But girl, are you already out walking the neighborhood with the two all by yourself? Congrats if you are!
And the baby swing was the only substitute for my arms I could find when Nathan was an infant. Maybe Cohen will like that. Call or email if you need anything quickly. I'm just a minute away!

It is so good to hear that things are settling in little by little with your boys. What a blessing to have Cohen home with you and thriving so well. I just love holding them until they fall asleep. Bad habit though, huh? I am a grandma with an almost 3 year old grandson and a new granddaughter 1 day younger than Cohen. Have fun with these guys and you will get your schedule all figured out as Cohen tells you:)

What an awesome testimony to God's amazing grace & wonderful healing power. Thank you Jesus that he gave Cohen to you & that y'all don't believe in abortion.
You are in my thoughts & prayers & I look forward to periodically checking in to see everyone's progress.
May the Good Lord continue to richly bless you.

Glad things are going well!!!
I just had a conversation with Steve end of last week about how God has been in EVERY detail (obviously!) of your situation, as He is in all of our lives...I had been thinking about Cohen and the fact that he will have some special needs and that you, Emily, have always had such a strong desire and passion for children with special needs, worked at the Washington Center, and are GREAT at it--God has prepared you perfectly for being Cohen's Mommy in so many ways. It is a beautiful thing to watch everything unfolding; and I know God will continue to be in the details--time of OT and PT appointments, Cort's schedule in the mix, and many more things that we will probably never even know He is working out!
Hi. I know you don't know me and I don't fully understand everything about your situation but have you thought about trying Enfamil Nutramigen? I use it for my daughter. She used to have refulx and scream through feedings. It is hypoallergenic so it's great for babies who have a reaction to milk based formulas and breast milk. Just a suggestion. Best of luck to all of you.
It's so fun to hear you talking about the chaos and craziness of a newborn. I'm thrilled that you are getting to experience figuring out a baby with a 2 year old helper!
Happy Birthday, sweet Cohen! we are still in awe of how God is working-and remain grateful for His goodness!
Just wondering if we will be able to celebrate corporately soon?
Thanks for the way you have continued to bless us with updates, Emily, as you settle in and adjust to so much!
We are still praying for all 4 of you!
