A More detailed Update

So, until now Chris has had to do the blog from work because we had ancient dial up service. We have finally caught up with technology and have a much more efficient internet and I can now contribute to the blog.
I know most of you just check out this sight to see Cort's fabulously cute pictures but I know there are a few of you that would appreciate more detailed updates here and there.
So, you may have gathered either from us or the little drops here and there on the blog that we have been having some issues with Cort. He has acid reflux, projectile vomits several feedings a day, and screams when he goes to the bathroom. I keep promising him that life is better then this! We first noticed the possible signs of reflux when he was about 2 weeks old(screaming in the middle or end of a feed, arching his back, choking, coughing, etc.) Then a few days later the vomiting began. People often ask me if it isn't just excessive spit up. The best way I know to describe it is that it's almost like a fire breathing dragon but it's a milk breathing baby. The milk just spews from his mouth and will go anywhere from 1 feet to 5 feet away. Needless to say, I called the doctor. He had hardly gained any weight that week and they suspected something called pyloric stenosis which would have required surgery. He had all the symptoms and all the high risk factors(1st born white male, O blood type) but didn't have it. We were greatly relieved that he wouldn't have surgery but frustrated because we didn't know what was wrong with our little boy.

The doctors started him on Zantac for his acid reflux. It helped for about a week. The vomiting continued, the gas pains got worse, and all the reflux symptoms came back.Thankfully, through all this he started to put on weight agian. I went off dairy( and I mean all dairy - it's crazy how many things have some form of milk it) for two weeks to see if he was allergic to milk- he wasn't. For those of you who know me you know how excited I was to put a piece of cheese in my mouth. We tried multiple different things that the lactation consultants suggest to see if there was a problem with breastfeeding- none of it worked. So we went back to the doctor yesterday and she still really thinks it's his reflux mainly. She took him off the zantac and put him on prevacid. So far so good. All day, his feeding have been much better!!!!! I am hopeful but don't want to get my hopes up too much. It won't help with his gas issues( or the fact that he won't sleep ALL day long) but we will take what we can get right now. Unrelated to the prevacid Cort has only thrown up two times this whole week!! I haven't had to change clothes three times a day and our washer machine has gotten a much needed rest! I hope it continues to get better.

So there's an upddate on Cort's health issues. On another side, can I just say my baby is the cutest thing I ever seen...and I'm not just saying that because I'm a bias mom.. ok so maybe I am but still he is just so darn cute. The past two months have certainly been challenging but they also been full of a lot of joy and blessings. He smiles a ton and coos all the time. He loves music(much to his daddy's pleasure) and anything that makes noise. He is currently really fond of a little duck my mom got him that quacks Ernie's rubber ducky song. It will even make him stop crying(briefly). Chris found the song on the internet too and we play it during his bath time, Cort thinks is the coolest thing. He sleeps great at night( I think it's his way of making up for not sleeping all day) and I think he's close to sleeping through the night.

I love being a mom and can't believe he is already almost two months old!!! I know we have lots more in store for us!
